Production Operator - Resin Bath & Buckets/ Elbow Bender/ Packer

SPRING, TX

-Resin Bath/ "Buckets"-

SUMMARY

Responsible for operating the resin baths/“buckets” station, as instructed by the Foreman, or designee.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES/ ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Must be able to read and write in English or Spanish.
  • Capable of understanding and supporting quality, environmental, occupational health and safety 
  • requirements, as applicable to this position.

At the direction of the Foreman, or designee:

  • Applies mold-release to the mandrels.
  • Determines how many bundles are to be set up and required number of ends.
  • Mixes epoxy resin and hardener, BYK, curing agents and colorants, as required.
  • Maintains levels in the buckets adding more resin and additives, as needed, to maintain continuous production.
  • Maintains appropriate buckets temperature, checks that heat lamps are in working order.
  • Keeps the bucket and bucket components clean and in working order – including screens, orifices, eyelets and combs.
  • Keeps heater bands on the barrels in use and on the next barrel to be used, to maintain required operating temperature.
  • Monitors the glass spools to ensure that there are no “run-outs”. Ties glass or (if busy) notifies the Foreman when glass needs to be tied.

Necessary skills and abilities:

  • Ability to “tie glass”
  • Ability to recognize “bad glass” during production – including “dry fuzz” and “wet fuzz” and to take appropriate action to resolve the problem.
  • Preferably able to read π -tape
  • Recognize and select correct comb size and verify “ends”, orifices and eyelets.
  • Read temperature gage on barrels and monitor resin bath temperature.
  • Works closely with the Winding Operator to ensure continuous production capability.

OTHER DUTIES

  • Be observant to detect potential maintenance problems during production runs – and communicate any problems or concerns to the Maintenance Department.

-Elbow Bender-

SUMMARY

Responsible for production of elbows, as instructed by the Foreman, or designee.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES/ ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Must be able to read and write in English or Spanish.
  • Capable of understanding and supporting quality, environmental, occupational health and safety requirements, as applicable to this position.

At the direction of the Foreman, or designee:

  • Determines required quantities of pipe needed to produce finished elbows and verifies adequate quantity available.
  • Selects correct radius mold and installs the mold in the bender.
  • Selects and connects the correct plugs for steam and water.
  • Uses an angle finder to check each finished piece is according to specifications (100% inspection).

Necessary skills and abilities:

  • Must be able to read (regular) tape to verify correct product lengths. (Ability to read -tape is also desirable)
  • Able to read calipers and determine wall thickness.
  • Understand difference, distinguish between tubular size (ID) and pipe size (IPS) product.
  • Must be able to read and interpret an angle finder.
  • Ability to identify correct radius molds and install them in bender.
  • Ability to recognize/determine when to use a spring during the bending.
  • Ability to recognize by sight and/or touch when the product is ready for bending

OTHER DUTIES

  • Responsible for checking boiler pressure and to ensure no leaks. Monitor and restart the boiler if needed

SUMMARY 

Responsible for packing finished products, as instructed by the Foreman, or designee.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES/ ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Must be able to read and write in English or Spanish.
  • Capable of understanding and supporting quality, environmental, occupational health and safety requirements, as applicable to this position.
  • At the direction of the Foreman, or designee:
  • Builds crates for conduit.
  • Builds bundles of elbows.
  • Produces stencils and apply to product packaging, as needed.
  • Checks correct markings on product as required per customer order (UL-labeling when needed)
  • Perform visual checks of product when packing to detect problems (such as appearance, cracking or other defect) and take appropriate action to prevent defective product from being shipped.
  • Loads containers (when necessary)
  • Check that pallets are correctly identified with job numbers
  • Necessary skills and abilities:
  • Manual carpentry skills required (fabricate pallets, skids and crates) – including safe use of tools and protective equipment.
  • Must be able to read (regular) tape to verify correct product lengths. 

OTHER DUTIES

  • Maintain adequate supplies of nails, lumber, stencil supplies, special inks, banding, banding clips and banding tensioner.
